Implementation & Platform Engineer
My client, a well-established company based in Somerset West, is seeking an Implementation & Platform Engineer with 3–5 years of experience in applications, implementation, or IT support roles within the tech industry.
About the Role
The engineer will be responsible for software commissioning and support, monitoring mining processes, and ensuring high uptime of installed sensors. This role involves working with Linux, networking, scripting, cloud IoT, Docker, and configuration management tools such as Ansible.
Responsibilities
- Support clients in identifying, implementing, and testing optimal software solutions.
- Install, test, and troubleshoot software solutions.
- Calibrate and configure sensor software installed on site.
- Monitor servers and sensors deployed in the field on an ongoing basis.
- Commission software via Ansible, Azure IoT, Git, and Docker Containers.
- Create and update support and commissioning documentation.
- Debug networking issues systematically.
- Inform relevant teams and stakeholders of software issues that hinder client operations.
- Ensure client satisfaction with implemented solutions.
- Keep clients informed during project deployment phases.
- Assist internal & client IT departments with infrastructure architecture planning and maintenance.
Qualifications
- Certificate or diploma in IT or related qualification.
- 3–5 years’ experience in application, implementation, or IT support roles.
- Comfortable with Linux via command line/SSH.
- Working knowledge of IP networking, network debugging, and basic firewall setup.
- Basic scripting with Python or Bash.
- Reading/editing TOML, JSON, and Python config files.
- Basic Git and use of platforms such as GitHub or GitLab.
- Knowledge of cloud IoT technologies (AWS, Azure IoT).
- Knowledge of Docker/containers is advantageous.
- Experience with OPC industrial protocol is beneficial.
- Working knowledge of SQL databases and queries is beneficial.
- Willingness to demonstrate personal or professional software projects.
