For this role, you will work with federal government employees, designers, and technologists to design and create digital content for public use and benefit.
As a Data Engineer, you will work closely with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to transform the Medicaid Drug Program (MDP) product suite. This product suite helps ensure that individuals with low-income and children in need of healthcare insurance receive affordable access to medication. The MDP product suite provides federal and state governments with critical data to negotiate better drug prices and provide transparency in drug costs to the public.

Requirements
What you’ll do:
- Architect, build, and maintain scalable tooling and infrastructure for managing data in a system
- Build automated data pipelines, manage data storage, and create systems to make data available to users
- Support teams by performing tasks like data analysis, interpretation, extraction, formatting, labeling, cleaning, transformation, reduction, discretization, annotation, loading and processing
- Advocate for properly making decisions with data
- Build and maintain secure tooling and infrastructure for scalable automated data pipelines
- Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements
- Collaborate with Data Scientists, designers, and user researchers to improve data models that solve problems and support data-driven decision making
- Support regular ad-hoc data and analysis needs to better understand customer behaviors
- Implement processes and systems to monitor data quality and volume, ensuring data is accurate and available
- Perform analysis required to troubleshoot data related issues and assist in the resolution of data issues
- Evaluate data ingestion, data analysis and machine learning tools for efficacy
- Evaluate existing data systems to improve data quality and governance
- Adhere to lean-agile engineering principles
- Advocate for and use modern software engineering best practices such as API-first design, continuous integration, version control, and automated testing
- Analyze systems to identify technical debt, instability, unreliability, and other opportunities for improvement, and design, document, and communicate solutions
- Represent Blue Tiger’s culture of delivery when interacting with government stakeholders and other contractors
What we’re looking for
- At least seven years of experience working as a data engineer on products with significant data requirements
- Experience creating synthetic data that matches the shape of production data
- Proficiency and familiarity with Liquibase, PostGRES, EKS
- Proficient in creating a data infrastructure
- Experience modernizing data infrastructure, working with organizations to design and implement modern data engineering best practices including automating database creation via code, schema creation, etc.
- Proven experience in database design, implementation, and management
- In-depth knowledge of how to deliver application architectures and code that are highly scalable, available, and performant
- Expertise using version control systems such as GitHub
- Ability to author developer-friendly documentation such as API documentation and deployment operations
- Proven ability to apply good software engineering principles and practices
- Ability to select and use the best tools for the job, particularly open-source solutions
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
- Experience working within a scrum/agile development methodology and environment

Benefits
The salary for this position is $140,000 – 190,000.
